Killer cell lectin-like receptor G1 (KLRG1) is an inhibitory receptor expressed on subsets of natural killer (NK) cells.
Putative KLRG1 ligands are expressed ubiquitously in melanoma and carcinoma cell lines.1 binds three of the classical cadherins (E (CDH1), N (CDH2), and R(CDH4)).
E-cadherin binding of KLRG1 prevents the lysis of E-cadherin???expressing targets by KLRG1+ NK cells.
Tumor-associated E-cadherin mutations interfere with KLRG1 interaction, human KLRG1 failed to bind to ??8 and ??9 E-cadherin mutants.
