Caspase9 is phosphorylated on Thr125 in a MEK1/2-dependent manner in vivo. Furthermore caspase9 is efficiently phosphorylated on Thr125 by ERK in vitro suggesting that it is targeted directly by ERK in vivo.
This is one of the ways ERK plays its anti-apoptotic role.
